Privacy Policy

Groow is a body progress photo journal — the pictures you take in it are private. This page spells out exactly what happens to them, without the usual legal fog.

01Who processes your data

Groow, the publisher of the app of the same name, is the data controller under the GDPR for the handful of data described here.

A handful, because the whole point of the app is that almost everything stays with you, out of our reach. Any question about this policy: contact@groow.fit.

02What stays on your device

Everything you create in Groow is stored locally, inside the app’s private container, protected by iOS encryption:

  • Your cut-out stickers and their thumbnails.
  • The first name, goal and sex you entered during onboarding.
  • Your notes, the days you marked as “workout”, and their dates.

None of it is transmitted to anyone, and we have no technical way to reach it.

The flip side matters: if you delete Groow or switch phones without a backup, all of it goes with the app. We cannot restore it, because we never had it.

03What happens to the original photo

When you take or import a photo, Groow processes it on the device to lift your silhouette out of it. The original, uncut photo is deleted as soon as the sticker is saved.

In other words: Groow does not keep your background. Not your bedroom, not your gym, not whatever was lying around.

A photo taken inside Groow is not added to your camera roll. A photo imported from your camera roll stays there untouched — it’s your photo, Groow leaves it alone.

04Cutouts happen on your device

The cutout relies on the vision models built into iOS, running locally on your iPhone. No image is sent to an online AI service.

Your photos are not used to train any model, ours or anyone else’s. We hold no copy of them.

05Permissions we ask for

Groow asks for two permissions, each for a single purpose:

  • Camera — to take your photo of the day, only when you open the capture screen.
  • Photos — to import an existing image. Groow reads the photo you pick, and nothing else.

You can decline or revoke them at any time in Settings › Groow. The app keeps working: you simply can’t add a photo that way anymore.

That’s the whole list. Groow never asks for your microphone — the app takes photos, it does not record video. Nor your location, your contacts, your address book, or an advertising identifier.

06What Groow never collects

This list says more than the previous one:

  • No account, no email address, no password.
  • No last name, no date of birth, no phone number.
  • No location, no contacts.
  • No advertising identifier (IDFA): Groow shows no ads and will never ask permission to track you.
  • No analytics tool, no tracking SDK, no profiling.

No data is sold, rented or traded. That is an architectural constraint before it is a promise: there is no database to sell.

07The one thing that does leave: your purchase

Groow is free to download. Past 15 stored stickers, a purchase unlocks unlimited storage. That purchase — and only that — involves two third parties:

  • Apple handles the payment through the App Store. We never see your payment method, your name or your address: Apple only shares aggregate sales statistics in which no one is identifiable.
  • RevenueCat, our purchase management provider, records that a purchase happened so you can restore it (new iPhone, reinstall). It receives an anonymous identifier generated by the app, your device model, your iOS version and your store country. No account is created, and that identifier is tied to neither your name nor your email.

No photo, sticker or note is ever sent to Apple or RevenueCat.

08Legal bases

We rely on two GDPR grounds:

  • Performance of a contract (art. 6.1.b) for the local processing of your photos and profile — without it the app does nothing — and for managing and restoring your purchase.
  • Legitimate interest (art. 6.1.f) for the aggregate, anonymous sales statistics Apple provides, which tell us whether the app is finding its audience.

We never ask for your consent, because we do nothing that requires it: no trackers, no ads, no profiling.

A photo of your body can qualify as sensitive data. That is exactly why it never leaves your device: we do not process it.

09How long data is kept

  • On your device: your stickers and notes stay as long as you keep them. You can delete a single entry from its detail screen, or wipe everything at once by deleting Groow.
  • The original photo: deleted at the end of the cutout, within seconds.
  • At RevenueCat: the purchase record is kept for as long as the app is distributed, so restoring stays possible.

10Transfers outside the European Union

Your photos are transferred nowhere, because they never leave your phone.

The only data concerned is purchase data (section 07), hosted by RevenueCat in the United States. That transfer is covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

11Security

Your local data sits in the app’s private container, unreachable by other apps, and protected by iOS hardware encryption as long as your iPhone has a passcode. We strongly recommend having one.

The strongest safeguard is architectural: what is never sent cannot leak from a server, and Groow has no server your photos could leak from.

No method is bulletproof, though. If a breach ever affected the little data we do transmit, we would notify you as the law requires.

12Your rights

The GDPR grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability.

For everything stored locally, you exercise them directly in the app, with no email to write and no waiting: browse your gallery, edit your profile, delete an entry, or wipe it all by removing Groow. That is the only place this data exists.

For purchase data, write to contact@groow.fit: we answer within one month. Include the approximate date of your purchase — it is the only way to trace an anonymous transaction.

You may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority; in France, that is the CNIL.

13Minors

Groow is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data — which is mechanically true, since we collect personal data on no one.

Because the app is built around photos of your own body, we recommend that minors use it only with a parent’s approval.

14This website

groow.fit is a static site. It sets no cookies, embeds no tracker and no analytics, and self-hosts its fonts: visiting it triggers no request to any third-party domain.

Our host, Vercel, keeps technical logs (IP address, requested page) for a short period, for security and reliability.

15Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Any substantial change — a new recipient, a new category of data — will be flagged in the app before it takes effect.
